While October is the first full month of Fall, pink seems to overshadow all the lovely Autumn colors. Pink has taken on a new identity since becoming the color that represents the fight against Breast Cancer. Since October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it only makes sense that pink to be everywhere! Blue Moon has seen an influx of pink in the last week and we wanted to share with all of you. Also, don’t forget to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month the way it was meant to be celebrated! Here’s a link to find local testing centers in the New Hanover area. Early detection is the best way to get a leg up on this terrible disease, don’t wait to be tested!
After Bev Veals of Island Girl Art was first diagnosed with breast cancer her life was turned upside down. Then just when she thought she had beat the disease, and she received the devastating news that it was back again. She found peace and therapy through her artwork. The piece below displays her scars openly while also highlighting another love the cancer brought into her life, Mother Nature. Bev discovered she was chemically sensitive during treatment and has since embraced the environment to help her heal. This love of nature has transcended in to her art work in a beautiful way. Her work is divine and spontaneous. She says she never has a vision when she sits down, she simply paints what comes to her. However her creative process works, it works wonderfully and we wish her good health for her many years to come.
Presence Jewelry has brought in a handcrafted necklace symbolizing faith and support in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The pink jewel is the perfect touch for someone fighting breast cancer or someone whose life has been touched by it. A portion of all sales of this necklace will go to the fight against breast cancer. Beautiful and for a good cause… what’s not to love?
Always Nature is another vendor whose life has been touched by breast cancer. Her best friend was diagnosed and she was left feeling helpless. Cancer puts people in the terrible position of being willing to give everything for their loved one in need and not being able to do really anything. In an effort to do something, Always Nature is selling beautifully themed “Hope” ornaments. For each “Hope” ornament sold, Always Nature will donate a portion of the sales to the fight against breast cancer.
Ladies… if you want to do a little more than donate your money, consider donating your hair. This summer I decided to chop off my long locks and donate 14 inches to Locks of Love. Being able to give a child in need a wig is definitely worth not being able to twirl my hair around my fingers. While it was an adjustment, knowing that my donation could be what makes a young girl feel beautiful again is a pretty great feeling.
Anything we can do to help support the fight against cancer is great, and its even better if it gives us an excuse to wear pink! Come into Blue Moon and help us support the fight against cancer!
