I really had no idea that there are so many ways to dye eggs! And to think that all of these years I have been using the good ole standby “drop a dye tablet into a water-vinegar” trick. Yes, I see great things in my Easter egg dying future…
Silk Tie Dyed Eggs
This is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a while! The idea is that you use silk ties to create awesome color combinations on your eggs. I’ve read several ways of how to do it but in my opinion the ladies at Our Best Bites have the best step by step tutorial on how to do it! If you don’t have a stash of old ties lying around (and they have have HAVE to be 100% silk) head to your nearest thrift store (I have also read that anything 100% silk will work… ie. blouses, skirts, boxers, etc).
Speckled Eggs
Is there anything wonderfully southern that Southern Living doesn’t know how to do? These great traditional eggs are perfect if you are looking for a simple way to achieve southerly chic Easter eggs. These are dyed by using tea for the brown eggs and blue dye for the blue eggs. Curious about how they got that wonderful speckled look? Head on over to Southern Living so that you can learn how get these little cuties on your Easter table!
Glitter Eggs
If you know me at all then you know that I just have to talk about glitter eggs! These are super easy and if you are anything like me then you already have every ultra fine glitter color imaginable. Bonus: these are “blown out” eggs so you can leave them out on display for days! The craft queen herself, Martha Stewart, walks you through the steps to a fabulously glittery Easter!
Naturally Dyed Eggs
One of the biggest downfalls for colored eggs (in my opinion) is when I crack open one of the little beauties only to realize that dye has leaked into the skin of the egg. I always wonder how healthy it is for me to ingest these chemicals. Well…. fear not, because I found a great solution from the ladies at Big Sis Lil Sis. Their thorough post on naturally dyed eggs shows step by step how using everyday items like flowers, leaves, cranberries, panty hose, and much much more you can transform your boring white eggs into a basket of all natural joy free of artificial dyes!
